SAVANNAH, GA -

It was on this day 46 years ago that civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was shot to death as he stood on the second-floor balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee.

Tonight, Savannah's MLK Observance Day Association will honor Dr. King's life by investing in the lives of future leaders.

The organization will present five area high school seniors with scholarships.

The ceremony takes place at 7 o'clock in Savannah State University's New Student Union Center.

The event is free and open to the public.
