SAVANNAH, Ga. - Francis Marion scored six unanswered runs, snapping a 2-2 tie to collect an 8-2 Peach Belt Conference baseball win over Armstrong Atlantic State University in the first game of a league series on Friday at Pirate Field.

The loss is the fourth straight for the Pirates (15-12, 7-9 PBC), while Francis Marion (15-15, 4-12 PBC) snapped a seven game losing streak within Peach Belt play with the win.

The Patriots plated two runs in the top of the first inning against Armstrong sophomore Corey Crunk (0-1), who was making his first career Peach Belt start. Michael Wilson's RBI triple and Luke Tollison's RBI double staked Francis Marion to the early 2-0 lead.

Armstrong tied things up in the bottom of the second on R.J. Dennard's solo home run and a wild pitch from FMU starter Jordy Santak (4-4) that scored Ryan Patterson to make the score 2-2.

Francis Marion broke the 2-2 deadlock in the fourth inning with a three-run home run by Casey Gebhardt, then added a solo home run by Marquis Curry in the fifth inning to make the score 6-2. The Patriots capped the scoring in the seventh on an RBI double by Curry and a sacrifice fly by Tollison.

Santak hurled eight innings of four-hit, two-run ball, walking one while striking out four to pick up the win for the Patriots. Crunk pitched six-plus innings, giving up nine hits and eight runs - six earned - while walking one and striking out three for the Pirates.

Dennard had three of the Pirates' five hits on the day, also collecting a double in his 3-for-5 contest. Curry and Wilson had two hits apiece for the Patriots.

Armstrong and Francis Marion will continue their Peach Belt Conference series on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. contest at Pirate Field. The Pirates will honor members of the 1988, 1989 and 1994 DII College World Series teams in a ceremony before first pitch.
