Pinellas seawall contractor could lose construction license

Posted: Updated:
PINELLAS COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

A Pinellas county seawall contractor who collected tens of thousands of dollars and still hasn't finished work could lose his license if he doesn't take care of problems quickly.

It took less than ten minutes Tuesday for a committee of the Pinellas County Construction Licensing Board to decide to take its investigation into Pinellas Marine Construction to the next level.

The county investigator said company owner Kevin Fisk gave her excuse after excuse, from bad weather, to problems with materials and equipment, to an illness in the family. The committee members, though, couldn't get past one thing: the fact that the company hasn't showed up to work on jobs in more than 90 days.

The committee's decision follows our 8 On Your Side investigation that found Pinellas Marine collected money for at least nine jobs that are either unfinished or haven't even started. Customers say Fisk gave excuses and then disappeared.

Another month has passed since News Channel 8's last story and jobs are still abandoned. There's Dale Nelson's $86,000 unfinished seawall on Treasure Island. In Largo, Kim Taylor and her neighbor together spent at least $15,000. In St. Petersburg, John Granger paid $21,000.

Alicia Lowther, also in St. Petersburg, paid $24,000. Lowther has since hired a new contractor who says he needs to rip out Pinellas Marine's work and start over. So, when the licensing board's committee met, Lowther was there.

"I want to make sure our voice is heard. i think it helps if they can see a face behind all these people who have paid money and seen nothing from it," Lowther said.

Fisk will have 30 days to respond to a written complaint from the board. Then, a decision will be made on whether or not to take action on the license. In the meantime, his company's license is still in good standing, and he's free to work.

Customers want to know why he's not showing back up at their homes.
