Triangle teen dies after falling from UNCC dorm

Posted: Updated:
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -

A student at the University of North Carolina Charlotte was found dead Sunday morning after apparently falling from a campus dorm.

A school spokesman said 18-year-old Joshua Robert Helm fell from the seventh floor of Moore Hall. The dormitory does not have balconies but the windows can be opened.

WCNC, the NBC affiliate in Charlotte, reports a resident adviser found Helms’ body on the first-floor balcony.

Helm was a freshman at UNCC. According to the UNC Charlotte Registrar’s office, his hometown was Hillsborough and he was a graduate of Northern High School in Durham.

Police Capt. Todd Lontz said the death is under investigation, however the incident does not appear to involve foul play.

The university sent out a letter to residents of Moore Hall saying counselors would be available in the dorm and on campus if needed.
