GSU's Wolfes and Evans Win Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Georgia Southern's Scott Wolfes (St. Simons Island, Ga./Glynn Academy) has been named the Southern Conference Golfer of the Week, while teammate Will Evans (McDonough, Ga./Eagles Landing Christian Academy) has been named the North Carolina Education Lottery Student-Athlete of the Week, the league announced today.

Wolfes fired a 68 in the last round to win the Schenkel Invitational at Forest Heights Country Club Sunday. The junior, who finished 7-under-par for the weekend, became just the third Eagle to win medalist honors at Georgia Southern's home tournament in its 35th year, joining Jimmy Ellis in 1973 and Richie Bryant in 1989. He helped the Eagles win the team title for the first time in school history, and this year's tournament featured six teams in the top-50 and 15 top-100 individuals.

It was Wolfes' third tournament victory and the ninth top-5 finish of his career. He earns SoCon Golfer of the Week honors for the fourth time in his career and second time this season.

Evans shot a 3-round total of 213 (-3) to tie for 4th at the Schenkel. Following a 69 in the opening round, the senior sparked the Eagles to the lead in the second round by recording a hole-in-one with a pitching wedge on the par-3, 130-yard hole 6. It was the 11th top-25 finish of his career.

The Eagles are back in action at the FAU Slomin Center Invitational at The Fountains in Lake Worth, Fla., March 28-30.
