Man Critically Injured in Crash on Back River Bridge

Savannah-Chatham Metro Police say a Savannah man is in critical condition after the car he was driving collided with an SUV on the Back River Bridge Friday night.

54-year-old John David Maney, was transported to Memorial University Medical Center after the 7:06 p.m. collision.

Police say he was driving a silver Ford Escort south on U.S. 17 toward the Talmadge Memorial Bridge when the Escort crossed the center line and collided with a Ford Explorer SUV being driven northbound by a Savannah woman.

A third car that the Escort had struck earlier was following it when the collision occurred on the bridge.

The Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) of the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department continues to investigate the collision of the Escort and Explorer.
