Mother and child expected to be okay after car hit by train

Posted: Updated:
CONETOE, NC - Highway Patrol said a mother and her son were sent to the hospital after their car was stuck by a train in Edgecombe County Thursday afternoon.

Troopers say the injuries were not serious, and both are expected to be okay.

The car was attempting to cross the tracks on a private drive off of Highway 64 in Conetoe when a train struck the car on the passenger side.

Sergeant Baker says both Amanda Reagin and her six-year-old son went to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville with non-life threatening injuries.  Reagin has been treated and released. Her son's official condition is unknown at this time.

No one on the train was injured. Highway Patrol said they do not expect to charge anyone with a crime.

The investigation is ongoing.
