Whale Branch Boys Fall in State Title Game

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Michael Knox scored 23 points, including seven points in overtime, as C.A. Johnson beat Whale Branch 71-64 on Saturday in the Class A boys state championship.
    
It is the Hornets first state title in 25 years
    
C.A. Johnson trailed by as many as 18 points in the first half. But Ben Holmes scored all 13 of his points after halftime to help spur the comeback.
    
The Hornets (18-9) limited the Warriors to just 9-of-28 shooting from the field in the second half and overtime after Whale Branch shot 18-of-26 in the first half. They also forced 36 turnovers which led to a 37-19 advantage on points off turnovers.
    
Justin Rhode forced the extra period for Whale Branch (23-5) when he made two free throws with 10.4 seconds left. Rhode and Marlon Williams each finished with 16 points for the Warriors.
    
Peter Goodman matched Holmes with 13 points for C.A. Johnson.
