JONESBOROUGH, TN (WJHL) -  A Jonesborough man was arrested for abusing a 9-month-old baby. Jonesborough Police told News Channel 11 the mother of the child came into the police station to file a domestic violence charge against the man police identified as Christopher Edwards.

Upon examination officers observed a cigarette burn to the baby's arm and bruising on the baby's face and neck. Investigators said they questioned edwards but he denied any wrong doing.

"He claimed that the child fell from about a 3 foot height from a bed. He also claimed, there was a cigarette burn to the right wrist of the child, and he claimed that the fire fell from the end of his cigarette. Again, was inconsistent with the actual injury," said Jonesborough Director of Public Safety Craig Ford.

Under Tennessee's Haley's Law, if convicted Edwards could face up to 60 years in prison.
