BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. -

UPDATE: The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office says suspect LaQuana Chisolm turned herself into authorities around 6 p.m. on Friday night. She was wanted on one count of Homicide by Child Abuse for the death of her boyfriend's daughter, 2 year old Phylicia Anaya Garry.

Garry was pronounced dead at noon on Thursday at MUSC, where she had been airlifted for a traumatic head injury. According to the sheriff's office, medical care was not sought for the child until three hours after she had been injured, when a family member came home and found her unconscious.

Chisolm first said the child fell off the bed, but then admitted to striking her with a dumbbell, according to sheriff's office reports.

She is being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center where she will remain, pending a bond hearing.

-----Background-----

The Beaufort County Sheriff's is looking for 26-year-old LaQuana Chisolm on several charges related to the death of a child.

Investigators say Chisolm was watching her boyfriend's 2-year-old, along with her 3 children, when the toddler was hit with a dumbbell.  A family member found the toddler 3 hours later and transported them to hospital where they later died.

It was initially reported that the baby fell off the bed, but the investigation led deputies to believe the toddler was attacked.
