SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Georgia Southern's Men's Basketball backcourt had a pair of players honored on Tuesday when the Southern Conference announced its 2013-14 postseason awards. Jelani Hewitt was picked All-SoCon by the league's coaches and named All-SoCon Second Team by the league's media. Tre Bussey picked up All-SoCon Third Team honors to close his career at Georgia Southern.

Hewitt, a native of Miramar, Fla., finished the 2013-14 regular season as the league's leading scorer with 20.0 ppg. He recorded 621 points this year and enters the tournament ranked fifth on the Georgia Southern single-season scoring list. He also led the Southern Conference in steals with 2.3 steals per game.

In the regular season finale, Hewitt matched the single-season school record with his 147th free throw made, matching Elton Nesbitt's 2004-05 mark. For the year he has scored 20+ points in 18-of-31 games and posted double-digit scoring in 29-of-31 games.

Bussey matched his career-high scoring in the regular season finale with 29 points against the Citadel. The senior from Lithia Springs, Ga. scored 16.3 ppg on the year. That total ranked him seventh in the league in scoring for the year.

Hewitt and Bussey are the 19th and 20th Eagles all-time to be named All-SoCon, picking up the 40th, 41st and 42nd All-Conference awards in program history.

The 2014 SoCon Tournament begins on Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. with the seventh-seeded Eagles facing the 10th seeded Furman Paladins. Fans can watch the games live on ESPN3 at WatchESPN.com.
