Rather Unusual Undulatus Asperatus Clouds in Atlanta This Morning

Undulatus asperatus clouds as seen in the Atlanta area this morning. Undulatus asperatus clouds as seen in the Atlanta area this morning.

The amazing looking cloud in the photograph to the left is known as undulatus asperatus. It was seen this morning in the Atlanta area. These clouds developed due to a gravity wave in the troposphere moving across north Georgia.

Undulatus asperatus clouds are usually described as wild... wave like cloud structures... which appear as roughened or agitated clouds.

There has been at attempt in the past to get this cloud added to the official cloud classification system. You can read more about those efforts on this link. And in the meantime... enjoy looking at our beautiful sky!
