Man arrested in Blountville Drug Company robbery

BLOUNTVILLE, TN (WJHL) - Last week, detectives investigating the Blountville Drug Robbery received information that led them to identify Wendell Buchanan, 51, of Blountville, as a suspect.

During the investigation, the suspect’s vehicle, a tan Toyota Corolla, was located at a relative’s home in Johnson City.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for the vehicle Wednesday afternoon and as a result of evidence found inside the car, Mr. Buchanan has been charged with Aggravated Robbery and Theft over $500.

He was arrested Wednesday evening and transported to the Sullivan County Correctional Facility.



PREVIOUS STORY: 

On 1/7/14 at approximately 4:45pm the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a Robbery at Blountville Drug Company which is located at 3090 Highway 126.

The suspect came in to the pharmacy and handed an employee a list of prescription medications, most of which were painkillers. The suspect said he was armed with a gun and proceeded to force his way by an employee to get behind the counter.  He then demanded the pharmacist give him the drugs on the list and told her if she did not, he would kill all of them.

The pharmacist complied and the suspect fled the business on foot.

The suspect is described as being a white male, approximately 6’2-6’4 in height, 250 lbs. He was wearing a maroon windbreaker with gray stripes near the shoulders, a tan hoodie underneath, as well as blue jeans and white tennis shoes. He also had his face covered with a mask.
