Ga. severe weather task force holds first meeting

Posted: Updated:

(AP) - Governor Nathan Deal has convened the first meeting of his severe weather task force, created after he took criticism of the state's response to a Jan. 28 snow storm that prompted a massive traffic jam in metro Atlanta.

TV meteorologists, along with representatives from the National Weather Service, state government and emergency responders were on hand for Tuesday's meeting. Deal told the group he expects some good recommendations to be made. The next meeting is set for March 4th.

Deal and Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed were criticized for their handling of the Jan. 28 storm, which left thousands stranded on icy, gridlocked roads.

Officials had a do-over last week when another storm hit the state. Preparations were made farther in advance and people heeded advice to stay home
