UPDATE 2/18/14

Metro Police have identified the second victim as 64 year old Arthur Ehardt.

----------

Savannah-Chatham Metro Police spokesman Julian Miller says two homeless men died Friday night when the pickup truck they were riding in flipped over into a water-filled canal under the Louisville Road entrance ramp to the highway 17 overpass in west Savannah.

Miller says 46 year old Joseph Webb Jr. and a 64-year-old companion died in the truck which turned over in several feet of water near a homeless camp beneath the overpass. The name of the other victim is being withheld until family can be notified.

The two men were reported to have been in a pickup truck which Webb attempted to back down a rugged access path beside the canal when the wheels on the driver's side of the truck rolled over the side of the canal and the truck overturned. The incident is still under investigation.
