Cheetah Hunt reopens at Busch Gardens

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

The "Cheetah Hunt" roller coaster has reopened at Busch Gardens.

The park's newest roller coaster was temporarily shut down after Wednesday's incident that stranded 16 people 60 feet in the air in a pouring rain storm.

Over the past two days, park engineers conducted tests on the ride without passengers to ensure the ride was operating smoothly.

State inspectors are accustom to testing rides at places like the Florida State Fair and Strawberry Festival before anyone is allowed to get on. But theme parks with more than 1,000 full-time employees, like Busch Gardens and Disney World, are exempt. But, they must provide quarterly reports to the state and they must have an annual state inspection.

A check of the state's exempt facilities report finds that in the past ten years Busch Gardens has only had two reportable incidents. None on the "Cheetah Hunt."
