74-year-old man shot, killed in Cary

CARY, N.C. -

Cary neighbors responded with shock and concern Friday after finding out a man was murdered in a quiet neighborhood in town.

It's the second homicide of the year for Cary. Cary Police responded to a shooting call around 8:45 a.m. Friday at 215 Trent Woods Way near Old Dock Trail.

When officers arrived, they found Aleksander "Lenny" Wysocki, 74, with a gunshot would in the side yard of the residence, the Town of Cary said in a release.

Wysocki was transported to Duke University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

The Trent woods Way was still blocked off Friday afternoon.

"What we know is that a man was shot this morning and was pronounced dead. Don't know any of the details," said Susan Fleming, who lives down the street. "We heard that it was not a random incident which kind of puts us as ease a little but it is still very unnerving for us neighbors."

Fleming said those in Cary were "not used to this kind of thing here" because of Cary's reputation for being a safe place to live. She said she had been keeping doors locked.

"It will just put us all on alert," she said.

Becky Dunn, who lives nearby, called what happened "really unsettling."

"We don't have things that happen like this," she said. "We like this neighborhood because we have a lot of family activities."

She called it "scary" to think that a gun was drawn and someone was shot in a neighborhood where children commonly play.

The Town of Cary said this is the second murder in Cary this year. On Feb. 2, Kevin Leroy Bodden shot and killed his brother. This is the first year since 2008 the town has experienced multiple murders. Vanlata Patel, Nancy Cooper and Maria Teresa Herrara-Diaz died from domestic violence in separate incidents that year.

Anyone near the area during the time of today's murder is encouraged to contact the Town of Cary Police Department at (919) 469-4012 or file a report anonymously with Cary Crime Stoppers at (919) 460-4636. Crime Stoppers pays up to $2,500 for the arrest or indictment of those responsible for committing certain types of crimes. All calls will be kept confidential at the caller's request.
