Caught On Camera: Georgia Southern Water Tower Over Flows

Posted: Updated:
STATESBORO, GA -

It was an unexpected sight at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro.  A water tower overflowed onto the campus.

Students took dramatic photos of the scene Wednesday night.  And those we talked to say it's the talk of the campus.

"There was a lot of water coming out.  And it was pretty exciting. Stuff like that doesn't normally happen, not at Georgia Southern at least," said Cole Townsend.

"I've never seen that happen so of course I'm going to run over to come see it.  It was fun to watch," said Will Kendrick.

University officials tell News 3, the power went out because of the winter storm and that caused the water pumps to default to the 'on' position.  They also say campus residence halls were not affected.

As vivid as the image is, now for passersby, there is little indication of what happened.

"It's probably one of the most exciting things I've ever seen.  Statesboro is a farm town so there's not too much going on but when a water tower explodes a lot of people get excited," Cole said.

Exciting for some, but it seems just another hazard of our frigid winter weather.
