Missing children reported in Tampa Bay

Posted: Updated:
According to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, over 300 children are missing in the State of Florida; dozens missing from within Tampa Bay alone.

The NCMEC says approximately 800,000 children are reported missing each year; that’s around 2,000 each day. Of that number, around 25 percent are abducted by family members and an estimated 115 children were victims of kidnapping from a suspect unknown to them.  NCMEC says the recovery rate for missing children has grown from 62 percent in 1990 to 97 percent today, much thanks to the creation of the AMBER Alert program created in 1996.

One of the most notable missing cases from Florida, Tiffany Sessions, has a possible break Wednesday. Developments were made in the case after investigators named a potential suspect: Paul Rowles, a convicted murderer who was paroled from prison in 1985 and lived in Pinellas County before moving to Gainesville in 1988, according to the TiffanySessions.com. Sessions, a University of Florida student, was 20-year old when she vanished during a walk home in Gainesville in 1989.
