Savannah Black Heritage Festival Recognizes 2014 Honorees

SAVANNAH, GA -

The 2014 Savannah Black Heritage Festival Honorees were recognized Tuesday night during a private reception in the Savannah Civic Center's Bryan Room.

Presented by the city of Savannah and Savannah State University, this year's theme is "Dare to Dream: Create a Legacy."

This year's honorees are a pair of local legends who have carved extraordinary legacies in our community: Shirley James, SBHF coordinator and chair and Editor and Operator of the Savannah Tribune; and Maxine Patterson who was one of the first dance instructors to open her doors to area African American students 44 years ago.

The ceremony preceded a free performance by Ballethnic Dance Company of Atlanta.
