Celebrating Black History: National Freedom Day

Today's Black History Moment from local historian and owner/operator of Day Clean Tours, Jamal Toure':

February 1st is National Freedom Day. "A beacon to oppressed peoples everywhere". The holiday recognizes that the U.S. is dedicated to the principle of freedom for all.  Major Richard R. Wright, Sr. the first President of Savannah State University, and the State of Georgia's official historian of African American Soldiers inspired the creation of  National Freedom Day.  National Freedom Day is celebrated as a part of  Hilton Head Island Gullah Celebration which starts today.
