Military Training Exercise Will Take Over Savannah Skies

Posted: Updated:

If you plan to be out and about this weekend, expect to hear lots of jet engine noise around Savannah thanks to some military activity.

The noise will be part of a  30-day training exercise involving military at the combat readiness center. Officials said the goal is to help airmen get ready for deployment to a war zone. Military personnel from Vermont, Florida and South Carolina are among those taking part in the exercise.

"We'll have almost a thousand folks coming through the combat readiness training center here and spending time in the local community. We're pretty excited about it. We'll have f-22's as well as f-16, f15, playing from the Florida Air National Guard and the Marine Corps up at Beaufort will be flying in this area exercise and we're excited," said Commander Thomas Grabowski.

This year's exercises are called Sentry Savannah and you may hear jet noises in connection with their training for about the next 30 days.
