2 Baldwin Men Killed In Winter Storm

Posted: Updated:
MOBILE, Alabama -

A truck collided with a train on Tuesday in Tuscaloosa, claiming the lives of two men from Baldwin County.

Charles Meiklejohn and Nahum Mickles, from Foley and Gulf Shores, were in northern Alabama working on an interstate project when the winter storm hit.

"The snow was blowing so bad you couldn't even see either way down the tracks," said a witness.

Their 4-door truck smashed from the impact. The side windows were busted out.

In all, the storm is being blamed for 8 traffic deaths in north Alabama.

1 death was reported in Chilton County, an accident claimed the life of a driver in Bullock County, Dekalb County reported a traffic fatality, 2 in Tuscaloosa, 1 death reported in Perry County and 2 deaths reported in Elmore County.

Icy roads were a problem in our area, too, but luckily no serious accidents were reported.

"A lot of people we're driving and even though we asked people not to be on the roads they were going slow. A lot of these were low speed crashes," said Ashley Rains with the Mobile Police Department.

Mobile Police are reporting there were 17 accidents with injuries this week during the winter storm. There were 112 crashes without injuries.
