Man in Mercedes with UNC tag gets lost, gets stuck at NC State

RALEIGH, N.C. -

A man driving a Mercedes with a UNC logo on his license plate got lost on the N.C. State University campus Thursday afternoon – and promptly got his car stuck on brick steps.

The incident, which happened two days before the Wolfpack men's basketball game at the University of North Carolina, sparked a social media firestorm at State, with multiple students sharing pictures of the event.

Sgt. Jeff Dunn of the N.C. State Campus Police said the incident happened at 4:23 Thursday afternoon, when an elderly man was driving down Thurman Drive on campus, not far from the Free Expression Tunnel.

Thurman Drive actually stops as a street when it gets to some residence halls, but the driver got confused and continued on until hitting a flight of steps.

"It looks like you can drive all the way through, but you can't," Dunn said.

Dunn said the driver was trying to find Cameron Village, which is about a mile away, and got lost.

Dunn said no one was hurt, but the car sustained about $1,000 in damage.

Dunn said no charges will be filed.
