MEN'S RECAP FROM ARMSTRONG ATLANTIC STATE UNIVERSITY:

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The UNC Pembroke men's basketball team surpassed the century mark for a second straight time at Alumni Arena, taking home a 109-87 Peach Belt Conference victory over host Armstrong Atlantic State University on Thursday evening.

The win snapped a six-game losing streak for the Braves (12-8, 3-7 PBC), while sending Armstrong (6-11, 3-7 PBC) to its third straight defeat. Last season, UNC Pembroke notched a 107-98 win over the Pirates, setting a new high for points at Alumni Arena by a non-Armstrong team.

The Braves bettered that this year by scoring 56 points in the second half after closing out the first half on a 26-10 run to take a 53-37 advantage at halftime. UNC Pembroke shot better than 50 percent in each half and finished the game hitting 41-of-75 shots from the floor (54.7 percent) as well as 7-of-15 from three-point range (46.7 percent) as well as 20-of-26 from the free throw line (76.9 percent).

Trailing by 16 points at the break, UNC Pembroke scored four points to open up the half, but the Pirates went on a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 13 points, 57-44, with 15:56 left in the contest. The Braves quickly responded with a 13-2 run over the next three minutes to reclaim the momentum and go on to the victory.

The Braves' Quamain Rose hit for a career-high 36 points on 15-of-22 shooting from the floor, including 2-of-4 three-pointers and 4-of-4 from the free throw line. The 36 points tied North Florida's Jamaal Williams for the most points at Alumni Arena by a non-Armstrong player as Williams scored 36 against USC Aiken in the 1998 Peach Belt Conference Tournament first round.

Alex Bradley and Ben Jacobs added 13 points apiece for the Braves, while Keysheen Hinton chipped in 11 points.

Armstrong placed five players in double figures on the night, led by senior Hichem Benayad-Cherif's 24 points, his fourth 20+ point game this season and his first since Nov. 16. Junior Emmanuel Tiluscar added 15 points while seniors Eric Eversley and Kenny Bellinger II, along with junior Kyle Callanan, each chipped in 12 points.

The Pirates return to action on Saturday, January 25th, hosting Montevallo in a Peach Belt Conference contest at 3:30 p.m. at Alumni Arena. Armstrong will celebrate Military Appreciation Day with free t-shirts and promotions for all current and former soldiers and their families.

WOMEN'S RECAP FROM ARMSTRONG ATLANTIC STATE UNIVERSITY:

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Armstrong Atlantic State University women's basketball team shot 53 percent in the second half, erasing a two-point halftime deficit and going on to a 72-56 Peach Belt Conference victory over visiting UNC Pembroke on Thursday evening at Alumni Arena.

The Pirates (10-6, 5-5 PBC) improved to 5-1 on its home floor this season while UNC Pembroke (6-11, 2-8 PBC) is still searching for its first win away from home, falling to 0-6 this season on the road.

The Braves jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the game's first minute and a half and Armstrong battled most of the half to make up the deficit, tying the contest at 26-all on a basket by senior Bryonna Davis with 1:40 to go until the break. UNC Pembroke scored the last bucket of the half, a jumper by Jonissa Monley, with 10 seconds left to take a 28-26 lead into halftime.

Armstrong opened up the second half strong, making three three-pointers - two from Davis - to take a 35-31 lead and the Pirates never trailed afterwards, hitting 16-of-30 shots in the second half en route to the victory.

"Breezy [Bryonna Davis] started hitting [in the second half]; she's had a rough patch, but she's awoken the sleeping giant and that's really great for us," Armstrong head coach Fala Bullock said. "When we hit shots outside we get to go one-on-one on the inside and BB [Brigitta Barta] really did a good job of posting hard and getting great finishes, and she's tough."

Davis finished the night with 21 points to lead all scorers, while Barta had 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor - nine of those 11 points coming in the second half. Junior Dee Hayward added 15 points and junior Amber Howell added 11 points.

UNC Pembroke was led by 14 poitns from Kamille Horne and 11 points from Kierra Haney.

Armstrong returns to action on Saturday, January 25th, hosting Montevallo in a 1:30 p.m. Peach Belt Conference contest at Alumni Arena. The Pirates will have Military Appreciation Day with free t-shirts and promotions for all current and former soldiers and their families.
