Posted: Updated:

NASCAR ANNOUNCED LATE THIS AFTERNOON, THAT IT IS MAKING MAJOR CHANGES TO THE WAY QUALIFYING TAKES PLACE FOR ITS TOP THREE NATIONAL SERIES.

INSTEAD OF CARS GOING OUT ONE AT A TIME  FOR QUALIFYING...NASCAR IS NOW SWITCHING TO A GROUP QUALIFYING FORMAT.
BASICALLY, ALL CARS OR TRUCKS, WILL TAKE TO THE TRACK FOR THE FIRST ROUND OF QUALIFYING.

THE COMPETITORS WILL BE TIMED FOR THEIR FASTEST LAP, WITH THE FASTEST GROUP OF 24 OR 12 DRIVERS, DEPENDING ON TRACK SIZE, WILL MOVE ON TO ROUNDS TWO AND THREE.
THE NEW FORMAT WILL NOT BE USED AT DAYTONA OR ANY NON-POINTS RACES IN THE SPRINT CUP SERIES.
