KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -

The flu is hitting a Knoxville family of four harder than they could have imagined, sending a young father and husband to the hospital.

WATE-TV reports John Monday is currently on a ventilator in critical condition, battling H1N1 and double pneumonia.

"He can't open his eyes, he's not been awake for almost a week, and it's just scary," said his wife, Julie Monday.

She said their family did not get flu shots this year, and about a week ago they all came down with the sickness.

"We all were sick. We all had body aches and fevers. We just felt miserable," she told the news station.

She and the couple's two sons both recovered as her husband worsened.

"We're just waiting. We're waiting for his lungs to clear up," added Monday.

Family members set up a Facebook page called "Prayers for John Monday," asking the public to pray for the young father.

"God is the ultimate healer and if we pray to him, he'll answer our prayers. If we're faithful He will heal John," said Monday.

Family members are also lending emotional support and trying to help out financially.  They set up a donation Web site in hopes of easing Monday's medical bills.

If you would like to help the family, click here to visit the donation site, or follow the family and check John's condition by "liking" his Facebook page.
