Charlotte airport’s recycling solution: 1 million trash-eating worms

Posted: Updated:
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Charlotte Douglas International Airport has a special recycling team: one million trash-eating worms!

The airport is shipping in the worms from Washington State to cut down on their trash and recycling costs.  Officials say taking all of their trash to a landfill is expensive but by introducing the worms, they have reduced their trash heap by 25 percent.

The waste from the worms is then used as compost on airport grounds.
