Milligan College - Five Buffaloes reached double figures in scoring as the Milligan men’s basketball team got back on the winning track with a 92-71 victory over Virginia University of Lynchburg Saturday evening.

With the win, Milligan improved to 9-7 (3-5 AAC).

The Buffaloes came out firing on all cylinders, scoring the game’s first 12 points and 19 points before their first miss. Through the first four minutes, they led 19-4, having connected on all four foul shots plus all six shots from the field (three from downtown).

Torian Sitton and Mickey Woods had six apiece and the other three starters were in the scoring column in the opening stretch as the Buffs were all about sharing in this one. All five starters scored points before they allowed the visiting Dragons onto the scoreboard, and Milligan received points from 10 players by the end of the night.

Sitton led all contributors with 25 points on 9-of-10 shooting. The senior, whose only miss was from three-point territory, also was 7-of-9 from the foul line. Woods finished with 12 points, going 2-for-3 from three.

Cartree Pettis scored 15 points and added four assists and four steals.

As a team, the Buffs shot 56.5% (35-62) from the field while limiting VUL to 44.8% (26-58). Milligan’s defense forced 28 turnovers and collected 18 steals.

VUL’s Chris Calvan led the Dragons off the bench with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds. Irving Cato scored 16.

Milligan led 46-31 at halftime and never saw its lead drop below 11 after the break.
