Lowcountry School Experiences Power Outage

Posted: Updated:
BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. -

Pritchardville Elementary experienced a brief power outage this morning, according to officials.  District spokesperson, Jim Foster says the school went to its backup generator for lights but lost its computers and heating system for about an hour.  Power was restored before the building temperatures became a problem.

Buses also had issues this morning, Foster says that out of 149 bus routes, nine had issues.  A few of those experienced problems directly related to the cold when the hydraulic lines that operate the main entry doors froze and the doors couldn't be closed.  Students who rode those bus routes got to school about 15 minutes late.

Officials say they will start up the buses a bit earlier this afternoon and tomorrow morning so that this problem will resolve itself before the routes begin.

Beaufort County schools plan to operate on regular schedules Wednesday morning.
