SAVANNAH, GA -

A Savannah man wanted for murder and aggravated assault in connection with a shooting on Christmas Eve has been arrested by U.S. Marshals.

Maurice Jamar Bentley, 31, is accused of gunning down Michael John Polite in the 800 block of Elliott St.

Polite was a father of four.

He was arrested Monday by U.S. Marshals after trying to jump out of a window of an apartment at the Presidential Plaza Apartments, authorities said.

"There was a brief altercation, verbal altercation that happened, and subsequently the suspect in this case pulled the gun out and shot the victim, continued to shoot the victim then took off from the scene, fled the scene," said Metro Police Detective Robert Santoro. "If he is out there, if he hears this, please turn himself in. We don't want him to get hurt. We don't want anybody else to get hurt."

Authorities were searching for Bentley in the Savannah area as well as Jacksonville.

He was one of WSAV's Fugitive Files suspects.

This was the 62nd suspect arrested after being profiled on Fugitive Files
