Woman hospitalized after pit bull attack

A young woman was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries Sunday, after being attacked by her pit bull dog.

According to Carter County Sheriff Chris Mathes, deputies were dispatched to an apartment on Oscar Banks Road in Johnson City, after neighbors heard a woman screaming.

When deputies arrived on scene, they saw a 21 year old woman being attacked by her dog. According to the sheriff's department, the responding sergeant tried to call the dog off verbally, but it continued to attack the woman. The sergeant shot and killed the dog.

The woman was taken to Johnson City Medical Center where she was rushed to emergency surgery.

Sheriff Mathes says the woman, whose name is not being released at this time, is now in fair condition.
