GREENVILLE, N.C. - It is a happy New Year for a Windsor couple who welcomed their first child at 12:05 a.m. Darren Cherry and his wife Tamechia welcomed Pitt County's first 2014 baby into the world shortly after midnight.

Donovan Cherry weighing 8 pounds 14 ounces and 18.5 inches long was expected on January 4, but decided to come a few days early. He was fast asleep during our visit.

Donovan is actually the second person in their family to be born on January first.

"We were in the process of pushing and the doctor came in and turned on the TV to watch the ball drop and after we counted down about 5 minutes later he was born,” Tamechia said.

More than 20 family members camped out at the hospital. Dad even says he cried more than his son did. Congratulations to the Cherry family.
