BLUFFTON, S.C. -

Bluffton Police are investigating vandalism at Bluffton High School's football field.

Investigators believe vandals spray painted several areas of the field, including the school's bobcat statue, sometime between 7:00 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. on Sunday.

The statue is now blue, the letters 'HH' are tattooed on the field, and the visitor's bench read 'Sea Hawks' and 'Bird Gang.'

The Seahawk is the mascot of Hilton Head Island High School, and the color happens to be blue. Some students, as well as Jim Foster, spokesman for the Beaufort County School District, says there's no doubt it was a prank among these rivals.

Foster says that unfortunately, pranks like this one go too far. He says the repairs will cost tax payers in the end.

However, some Bluffton High School students say it's harmless.

"It's just a rivalry. It's kind of stupid. I mean, I would never do that to them," says Frank Ferrato.

"Honestly, I think it's kind of funny. I mean, just because they already stole it once," says Sage Cross.

The kids say it's happened before, and will most likely happen again. Last year, the bobcat statue was stolen. Videos of the prank went all the way to Youtube.

So far no one has been charged in the incident. Anyone with information on this case is asked to call (843) 706-4516.
