COLUMBUS, Ga. -

UPDATE: A Phoenix police officer shot and killed suspected bank robber and cop killer 40-year-old Mario Edward Garnett Saturday after another attempted bank heist there.

The FBI is asking for the public's help in identifying and locating the person responsible for the Monday, December 23, 2013 attempted armed robbery of the Bank of America, located at 2625 Piedmont Road N.E., Atlanta, Georgia.

The FBI says the man walked into the bank wearing a black ski mask and armed with a semi-automatic handgun. after unsuccessfully getting money from a bank teller, federal agents say he made the same demand from a customer at an ATM located in the vestibule of the bank. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of money from the customer, the robber departed the bank without further incident.

He was observed departing in a light grey vehicle, possibly a Chrysler 200, with no license plate displayed.

The robber is described as a light skinned male, race undetermined, wearing a black ski mask, grey/white striped long sleeve shirt, black gloves, light or grey tennis shoes/possibly Chuck Taylor Converse shoes, and a black semi-automatic handgun, possibly a Sig Sauer .45 caliber

This individual is now believed to be the same armed robber responsible for the violent armed robbery of a Tupelo, Mississippi bank that occurred later that same day and the resulting ambush style shooting of two Tupelo Police Officers. Officer Gale Stauffer, one of the two officers, died of those wounds received by the robber.

The FBI is currently offering a reward of up to $100,000, with a total combined reward of over $200,000 being offered, for information leading to the capture of this individual who is considered armed and extremely dangerous. Anyone with information regarding this matter should immediately contact the FBI at the established tip line, tel. 1-800-CALL FBI (1-800-225-5324).
