UPS expects 'nearly all' Christmas packages delivered by Friday

Posted: Updated:

After a Christmas backlog that surprised and frustrated consumers, a UPS spokeswoman said Friday that it expects "nearly all" Christmas packages to be delivered by Friday.

"The volume of air packages in our system exceeded the capacity of our network as demand was much greater than the forecast," said Natalie Black, Public Relations Manager for UPS in Nebraska. "As a result, some shipments were delayed."

UPS would not provide specifics on how many packages were delayed. Black said that UPS delivers more than 16 million packages a day, and that jumps about 8 percent at peak times.

Black said one area of the country that was hit the hardest was Dallas/Fort Worth, because of weather delays.
