PHENIX CITY, Ala. - One suspect has died and another is now in custody after Thursday's police-involved shooting in Phenix City.

Around 10:45a et, Phenix City police responded to an attempted armed robbery in the 1200 block of 8th Street. Responding officers saw a white Buick leaving the area at a high rate of speed and attempted to stop the vehicle.

After a short chase, the two robbery suspects - later identified as Cimarron Lamar Lamb and Cudarion Demarco Long - left the vehicle and fled on foot. Lamb, 33, was found hiding under a car on 16th Avenue and was shot by officers after refusing their demands, Phenix City police Chief Raymond Smith says. Smith would not specify what those demands were. Lamb was taken by ambulance to Midtown Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Smith confirms officers used their department-issued handguns in the shooting.

"Certainly all officers are armed with a handgun," Smith says. "Only handguns in this particular incident were used."

News 3 asked Smith about his department's use of stun guns.

"We only have about twelve tasers," Smith says. "I'm not sure if any of the officers actually on the scene had tasers."

For nearly two hours after the shooting, heavily armed officers searched the neighborhood for Long, but were unable to locate him. Police announced Friday morning the 19-year-old had been arrested and charged with first-degree robbery. Officials did not say where Long was found.

The three Phenix City police officers involved in the shooting were placed on paid administrative leave while Alabama Bureau of Investigation officials review the shooting. Chief Smith says placing the officers on leave is standard protocol following officer-involved shootings. The identities of the officers were not released.

At the time of the shooting, there was a warrant out for Lamb's arrest. Officials say he had been out on bond following a previous robbery.

Editor's Note: This article was updated 12/20 to include the name of the second suspect. Police had not initially identified him publicly.
