Family loses business and Christmas presents in fire

Posted: Updated:
GREENE COUNTY, TN (WJHL) -

A Greene County man's woodworking shop burned to the ground this morning.

Charlie Dibella's children and grandchildren's Christmas presents were in the shop at the time, including a handmade dollhouse he and his son-in law were working on for his four granddaughters.

The shop is on the same property as the family's home, where ten relatives live with Charlie and his wife, Karen. Luckily, no one was injured, and the house was not damaged.

The couple adopted eight children with medical problems when they lived in Florida, before moving to Tennessee seven years ago.

Five of those children, a son-in-law, and four grandchildren live at the home with Charlie and Karen.

Just a week before Christmas, the family saw a lifetime of work destroyed in an instant.

"It's our livelihood," said Karen, "and that's what's devastating."

"Everything that I have, 45 years worth of tools and equipment...gone," added Charlie.

The family did have insurance on the building. Click here to learn how you can help the family.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
