Boat maker to create 200 jobs in Onslow County

RALEIGH, N.C. -

A Washington state company that makes aluminum boats plans to create 200 jobs in Onslow County with a new operation.

Gov. Pat McCrory said Tuesday that Armstrong Marine Inc. is building a welded aluminum boat manufacturing operation near Swansboro.

The company plans to spend more than $8 million on the plant.

Armstrong Marine makes welded aluminum boats, fire boats, dive boats, pilot boats, research vessels, interceptors and river craft for both the military and industrial markets.

President and CEO Josh Armstrong said the company decided its plant in Port Angeles, Wash., was not adequate to meet market demands. Armstrong says the new plant will eliminate the high cost of shipping to the East Coast.

Officials say the average salary at the plant will be more than $31,000 annually.
