MARLBORO COUNTY, SC (WBTW)- A 19-year-old man from Clio died after a two vehicle crash in Marlboro County Tuesday afternoon.

The crash happened on U.S. Highway 15 around 4:25 p.m. According to Corporal Sonny Collins, the driver of an 18-wheeler was traveling North on Highway 15 when he struck the passenger side of a 1999 Jeep Cherokee  that was traveling South on Highway 15.

Troopers say the driver of the Jeep Cherokee attempted to make a left turn onto Oak Hill Road and failed to yield the right of way to the 18-wheeler.

The passenger of the Jeep was killed in the crash, but the driver was transported to a Scotland County Hospital in North Carolina.

Collins says both the driver and passenger in the Cherokee were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Marlboro County coroner identifies the passenger as Christopher McLean, 19, from Clio. McLean was a student of the University of Phoenix, according to his Facebook page.

No charges have been filed at this point. The crash remains under investigation.
