Georgia Southern Set for NCAA Volleyball Tournament

RELEASE FROM GEORGIA SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY:

Volleyball Draws Florida State in NCAA Tournament

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern volleyball team will take on Florida State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Thursday, Dec. 5, at 5 p.m. The contest will be played in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center on the campus of the University of Florida.

It will be the Eagles' first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 2010, when they lost 3-1 to Florida State in the first round, and fourth overall. The Eagles are still searching for the program's first NCAA Tournament win.

The winner of the match between the Eagles and Seminoles will take on the winner of the match featuring the host Gators and Jacksonville Friday at 7 p.m.

Georgia Southern earned the Southern Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by defeating Samford 3-1 in Timmons Arena last Sunday in the league's tournament title game.

Junior outside hitter Jamie DeRatt (Wilson, N.C./J.H. Rose) was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player while junior middle Kym Coley (Aiken, S.C./South Aiken) was named all-tournament for the second straight season and sophomore right side Katie Bange (Marietta, Ga./Pope) also earned all-tournament accolades.

Georgia Southern has tied the school season record with 28 wins against five losses and has won 13 of its last 15 matches. The Eagles are 0-3 against the Seminoles all-time with the last match coming in the 2010 NCAA Tournament. Florida State also topped Georgia Southern 3-0 in 1990 and 3-0 in 1997.
