Auburn students return to class talking football

Posted: Updated:
AUBURN, Ala. -

Auburn is still talking about the big win over Alabama as students return to class the week before finals.

Some Auburn professors surprised their students with some good news when they came into class after the Iron Bowl. Senior Kayla Garrick says, "I received news in my class that due to us getting the 'W' against Alabama this past weekend that my material for my final is now cut in half."

Others are focusing on finding a ticket to the game. Senior Graham Brooks remembers, "I was a freshman here in 2010, and I actually didn't get to attend the SEC game that year, so immediately after the game I was like, 'Dad we're going this year. We're not missing it this time.'"

The 16,000 tickets allotted to the university were sold out as of noon Sunday.

Prices start at $250 on StubHub and go well into the thousands.

Also selling like hotcakes are score T-shirts from the Iron Bowl. Tiger Rags has sold more than 2,000 shirts online and the store has been packed since Saturday.

"It's been a madhouse, an absolute madhouse," says store president Jerry Rigby. "We just can't keep up. We're doing everything we can, we've got a subcontract printer helping us locally, and it's just been crazy."

Rigby says this is the most excited he's seen Auburn ever because the win was so sudden.

Everyone says they want a piece of the history, but Auburn football has more in store.

"Legacy is something that's defined when you look back on moments," says Junior Travis Gipson, "and we still have a lot to do. This legacy isn't done yet."

"The game took a few years off my life," recalls Garrick, "and definitely has my voice, but I would do it all again in a second."

A few lucky students still have a shot at scoring the original $60 tickets. There will be one more lottery drawing for them Tuesday evening.
