Animals rescued from backyard breeder adopted

Posted: Updated:

Animals surrendered from a backyard breeder in Pitt County are beginning to find homes.

Animal control recently issued a written warning to Darlene Warren after they found conditions unacceptable for her 45 dogs, 8 cats, and dozens of other animals.

Warren surrendered some of those animals to the Pitt County animal shelter. Several of those animals have now found homes.

9 On Your Side was there at the animal shelter for the adoption of one of the dogs. The Bichon was adopted by a family who lives near Rocky Mount. The new owner waited at the shelter all morning to ensure she would be able to adopt the new family member when the shelter opened.

The shelter still has another dog and three cats surrendered by Warren. You can see pictures of them in the slideshow along with several other pets waiting to be adopted from the shelter.

For more information about the animals available for adoption you can visit the shelter’s website here or contact them at 252-902-1725
