Beach High Grad Heyward among Tigers Named to All-Meac

Four Tigers Make All-MEAC

NORFOLK, Va.- Four Savannah State football players have been named to the 2013 All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Team.

Simon Heyward (wide receiver - BEACH HIGH SCHOOL, SAVANNAH) and Kris Drummond (tight end) were named to the second team offense while Marquis Smith (linebacker) and John Wilson (defensive back) were named to the third team defense.

Members of the all conference team were voted on by the MEAC's head football coaches and sports information directors.

Heyward, a senior from Savannah, Georgia, led the team in receiving with 36 catches for 572 yards and three touchdowns. He also had two rushes for 28 yards. He returned 11 kickoffs for 203 yards and one punt for 15 yards.

Drummond, a junior from Washington, D.C., had 23 receptions for 296 yards and two touchdowns.

Smith, a freshman from Prince George County, Maryland, led the SSU defense with 124 tackles (72 solo) and 13 tackles for losses. He also returned a interception 46 yards for a touchdown and a fumble 36 yards for a touchdown. He had two fumble recoveries, two pass deflections, one sack, one interception, one pass breakup and one quarterback hurry.

Wilson, a senior from Athens, Georgia, anchored the secondary with 73 tackles (44 solo) and four interceptions. He finished the season with 13 passes defended, nine pass breakups and three tackles for losses.
