Coastal Sunrise: Top 3 on 3

Posted: Updated:

Here's a quick look at your Top 3 on 3 stories you'll need to know before heading out this morning.

A winter storm is threatening much of the East Coast, and it has Macy's hoping its Thanksgiving Day Parade will soar despite the weather. The marching bands and ornate floats will definitely be there, but the big balloons could be kept back if winds get too strong. The national weather service is predicting winds between 15 and 25 miles an hour in the city, which is just around the safety cutoff point. The parade kicks off at 9 this morning on WSAV News 3.

Also, some good news this morning for local holiday shoppers. The city of Savannah is offering a number of special downtown parking incentives, beginning today. Metered parking will not be enforced today, or tomorrow. Also, three hours of free parking will be available in city parking garages every Thursday and Friday beginning today through December 27th. Plus, 'Parking Smart' cards can now be purchased for 50 percent off through the end of the year.

Plus, a teenaged boy accused of murdering his own father, then trying to get rid of the body, has now pleaded guilty. 14-year-old Preston Phelps had his day in court Wednesday, officially pleading guilty to killing his own father, Thomas Phelps. The details read out by prosecutors were graphic - and at times disturbing. Phelps has been sentenced to life in prison- with the possibility of parole in 30 years. He also is now expected to testify against his mother Judith in her trial, which is supposed to start next week.
