Columbus Botanical Garden hosts holiday open house

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBUS, Ga. -

The Columbus Botanical Garden is having an open house on Dec. 8 from 5-7 p.m.

The program of events includes a reading of "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" by George Averill a quarter to each hour starting at 5:45 p.m.

George's aunt, Lula Moore Averill, was one of the last surviving relatives of Dr. Clement Moore, who wrote "A Visit from St Nicholas" for his children in 1822. St. Nicholas is the patron saint of children and had never before been associated with Christmas. The poem is now known as "'Twas the Night Before Christmas."

Holiday Carolers Schedule:

5:00 p.m.-5:45 p.m.: Brookstone School

6:00 p.m.-6:45 p.m.: Aaron Cohn Middle School

7:00 p.m.-7:45 p.m.: CSU's Genesis Gospel Singers

Wreaths, poinsettias and decorative holiday bows will be available for purchase at the Garden. 25% of proceeds go to the Garden.

Free refreshments for all
