UPDATE 11/27/2013

Two more arrests were made in the ongoing investigation into what Beaufort Police say was an attempted robbery that resulted in the shooting death of Jerrit Timberson.

Sierra Danielle Powers, 18, and Brandi Toniqua Hardy, 20, are being charged with criminal conspiracy for taking part in the attempted robbery on Hookstra Drive. Police say both women are being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center, pending a bond hearing.

UPDATE 11/26/2013

Beaufort Police have arrested a third suspect in connection with the shooting death of Jerrit Timberson.

Karl Brather Lyttle, 21, is charged with Sale and Distribution of Marijuana and Sale and Distribution of Marijuana within the proximity of a school.

Lyttle is accused of agreeing to sell an amount of marijuana to a group of people at a residence on Hookstra Drive.

Beaufort Police say Lyttle met with Kelsey Dent and Jerrit Timberson at the house and was in the process of completing a drug transaction when it is reported that Dent and Timberson pulled out guns and attempted to rob Lyttle.

Lyttle, who was armed with a pistol, shot Jerrit Timberson, police said.

The guns that Dent and Timberson reportedly pulled on Lyttle were later found to be fake guns.

Lyttle is being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.

Jerrit Timberson, 20, was shot and killed Friday night in Beaufort, according to Deputy Coroner Tim Wolf. Police say he was a marine.

The investigation continued Monday, with Timberson's wife charged in connection to his death. Police say Champagne White-Timberson, 19, of Beaufort, was arrested and charged with criminal conspiracy.

According to police, White-Timberson had direct involvement in the execution of an attempted robbery that ended in the death of her husband Jerrit Timberson. She is being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center.

Kelsey Terell Dent of Belleville, Illinois, is being charged with armed robbery in the case. According to police, Dent and Timberson conspired to rob the gunman after making a drug deal.

Police responded to shots fired on Hookstra Drive in Beaufort around 9:30 p.m. Friday. Police say officers found Timberson with gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital, and there pronounced dead.

Police say another man approached them at the scene and admitted to shooting the marine. Further questioning determined that a group including Dent and Timberson planned to rob this man during a drug deal.

At some point in the deal, Timberson and Dent wielded fake pistols. The man being robbed then produced a real pistol with which he opened fire. Two pellet pistols and a real pistol were taken from the scene, according to police.

It's a scene that unfolded near Gerald Wynn's front yard.

"At 9:30 I heard what I believed to be gunshots. I counted five rounds," Wynn says.

Another neighbor, Jodi Clutter says "we heard about five or six gunshots."

But neighbors say this is unusual in their normally quiet area.

"Police cars were everywhere, and they started taping off the area," Clutter says.

Then police examined a silver sedan.

"They were shining the light into the back seat and they said the victim's in the back seat he's been shot," Wynn says.

Neighbors say a body was put into the back seat of the car before the driver was apprehended by the police.

The next morning, a man came over to apologize to Wynn for the commotion across the street. He explained to Wynn that he shot the marine once the marine pulled a gun to rob him.

"Apparently it was a robbery that went bad," Wynn says. "The victim of the robbery apparently did the shooting."

Police say they are still looking to question two people associated with the group.

That leaves some neighbors on edge.

"You think you're safe, and then something like this happens out of the blue, unexpectedly, and you know you have to be on your guard," Clutter says.

Police say several shots were fired just off of Mossy Oaks Road and Hookstra Drive in Beaufort around 9:30 Friday night. Police say gunshots left one victim deceased.

Names will not be released until the family can be notified, but Deputy Chief Dale McDorman said the victim was a Beaufort resident, and a marine. He says there are two in custody now. One is a suspect, another is a person of interest. The suspect is from the Shell Point area. Neither suspect nor victim was a resident of the yard the altercation occurred in.

Investigators are still on the scene, learning details. They recovered two hand guns, and suspect there was an altercation outside of the victim's car. The victim was found wounded in the backseat of the vehicle, and a friend was driving.

Police say one party claimed the incident was a robbery, although there is no evidence to suggest that yet.
