Phenix City Council takes meeting to South Girard School

PHENIX CITY, Ala. -

Phenix City took Tuesday night's council meeting to South Girard School.

The Phenix City Council meets somewhere in the three districts quarterly. This time was dedicated to district three, home of Councilor Arthur Day.

Although some of the biggest items on the agenda were approvals for funds for Christmas music and fireworks, Day says it's an opportunity for the citizens to get involved.

Day chose to have the meeting at the South Girard School auditorium, and his constituents say they appreciate the gesture.

Naomi Glover lives in the district and says, "I think it's good, because the times they have it during the daytime, it's kind of hard, inconvenient to get there. Like this, I don't stay that far, so that's the reason I came on out tonight." She's a self-proclaimed "pest," but says Councilor Day and Mayor Eddie Lowe always return her calls.

Mayor Lowe says it's important to have the input of the citizens as the city strives towards transparency. He and City Manager Wallace Hunter also took the opportunity to remind everyone to protect their homes from burglars this time of year.
