Butterball reports shortage on fresh turkeys

Posted: Updated:

This could be a recipe for a Thanksgiving Day disaster for some Butterball turkey fans!

There is a shortage of large, fresh butterball turkeys this year.

It's all because some farmer who supply Butterball couldn't get their turkeys to plump up sufficiently, so fresh ones over 16 pounds might be in short supply.

But don't panic! There are still plenty of frozen turkeys from Butterball as well as fresh birds from other producers available for your roasting pleasure.

Butterball produces around one-point-three billion pounds of turkey meat a year, and 20 percent of the United States' turkeys.
