SUMTER, SC -

Authorities have identified a 2-year-old boy who drowned in a Sumter County pond.

Coroner Harvin Bullock says an autopsy Tuesday shows that Byron Barr died from accidental drowning.

Sheriff Anthony Dennis says deputies were called to a report of a missing child Monday afternoon around 1 p.m.

Dennis says it took about 20 minutes to locate the child's body on top of the water about 200 feet from his home.

Relatives and friends are devasted by the little boy's death.

"Yesterday, my friend and brother, Byron Barr lost his 2 yr old son, BJ, in a tragic accident. Please pray for him and his family as they go through everyone's worst nightmare....loss of a child," wrote Dondi McClintock on Facebook.

Dennis says the child had been staying with his grandparents over the weekend.

Authorities are still investigating.
